2022

Croí visited Leinster House in Dublin to launch a report on echocardiography services in Ireland which outlined that 80% of public hospitals do not offer GPs direct access to echocardiograms, an essential diagnostic test for heart patients.

2021

Croí received major international recognition for being the first Irish organisation to be accredited by the European Association of Preventive Cardiology (EAPC) for its work in cardiovascular risk management and prevention

2020

Croí’s virtual service for supporting people living with heart disease and stroke, ‘Heartlink West’ was launched Croí launches new MySláinte Virtual Programme

2019

In 2019, Croí funded the furnishing and redesign of a new family room for the Coronary Care Unit at University Hospital Galway. In the Spring of 2019, a series of health and wellbeing days were delivered across the West Coast Islands as part of a Healthy Ireland Partnership for Healthy Islands, including Inis Mór, Inis Meáin, Inis Oírr and Inishbofin – the first time such an event has taken place across all islands.

2018

We welcomed two world leaders to Galway as members of our NIPC team – Professor Bill McEvoy returned to Ireland from John Hopkins University School of Medicine USA as Professor of Preventive Cardiology, NUIG; Consultant Cardiologist, GUH; and Research & Medical Director, NIPC. Professor David Wood, immediate past president of the World Heart Federation, moved to Galway from Imperial College London as an Adjunct Professor of Preventive Cardiology at NUIG and Director of Science, Strategy & International Relations at NIPC. Croí was delighted to accept the 2018 ‘Healthcare (Heart & Stroke) to the Public Sector Award’ as part of the Public Sector Excellence in Business Awards.

1985

West of Ireland Cardiology Foundation established to lead a major public campaign to advance the case for specialist cardiac services and facilities for the west of Ireland, based at University Hospital Galway

1987

West of Ireland Cardiac Foundation funds the first Cardiac Diagnostic Angiography Unit in the region.

1993

First CEO appointed and Croí name and logo launched.

1995

Croí commenced support for cardiac services at Mayo General and Roscommon Hospitals

1996

Ireland’s first mobile Coronary Care Unit (Croí Ambulance launched)
