Smoking

Smoking doubles your risk of developing heart disease. If you are a smoker, the single most important thing you can do for your health is to give up! Even if you gain weight by quitting, you will still have a lower risk of heart disease than by being slim and smoking. You will still benefit from quitting even if you have smoked for decades – within one year of giving up you will have cut your risk of heart disease in half. Nicotine replacement therapy (NRT) doubles your chances at quitting.

If you are struggling to give up smoking, speak to your GP or pharmacist who will be able to advise and support you.
