Croí and The Michael Guinee Charitable Foundation Announce Three-Year Partnership to Provide Free Heart Health Checks to Communities Around Ireland

Croí, the heart and stroke charity, has announced a new three-year partnership with The Michael Guinee Charitable Foundation to support an important community health initiative aimed at improving early detection and prevention of heart disease and stroke.

Through this significant funding commitment, The Michael Guinee Charitable Foundation will support the Croí in Your Community Programme, enabling Croí to deliver free cardiovascular and stroke risk-factor checks directly to communities using the Croí Mobile Health Hub.

The Croí Mobile Health Hub is the largest vehicle in Ireland’s mobile health fleet. The 13.6-metre-long multi-purpose unit is specially designed to facilitate early detection of cardiovascular disease and stroke, while also providing a space for education and community engagement.

Equipped with six private assessment cubicles and two consultation rooms, the mobile hub allows healthcare professionals to carry out a wide range of health assessments in a confidential setting. The vehicle can also be transformed into an open-plan educational and training space, with full audio-visual facilities to support community learning and engagement.

Cardiovascular disease remains the leading cause of death worldwide, with thousands of people affected each year in Ireland. Yet, experts estimate that the majority of premature cardiovascular disease can be prevented through early detection, lifestyle changes and timely interventions.

Over the next three years, the Croí Mobile Health Hub will travel to towns and communities across the country, providing accessible cardiovascular health checks and information directly to the public. These events will be open to all adults and aim to empower individuals with the knowledge and support they need to take control of their heart health.

Speaking about the partnership, Derek Barrett, Chief Executive of The Michael Guinee Charitable Foundation, said:

The Foundation is proud to support Croí’s work bringing heart health prevention and early detection into communities across Ireland.  It ensures that more people can access the knowledge and services they need to live longer, healthier lives.”

Mark O’Donnell, Chief Executive of Croí, welcomed the partnership:

We are delighted to partner with the Michael Guinee Charitable Foundation to bring life-saving prevention services directly into communities and are very grateful to the foundation for their support. By bringing the Croí Mobile Health Hub into communities, we can identify risk earlier, support people to make positive changes, and ultimately help save lives. Partnerships like this are essential in ensuring that prevention and early detection reach the people who need them most.”

Dates and locations of towns that the Croí Mobile Health Hub will visit will be shared in advance across Croí’s social media channels. The 2026 programme of activities will focus on the mid-West, West and North-West. To stay up to date on upcoming community health check events, follow Croí @croiheartstroke on all social media channels.

This partnership represents an important step in expanding community-based cardiovascular prevention services and ensuring more people across Ireland have access to life-saving early detection and health education.
