To mark World Stroke Day, Croí, the Heart & Stroke Charity, is bringing its state-of-the-art Mobile Health Hub to Athlone, with the support of the Medtronic Mission Makers Project.

On Wednesday 29th October from 10am to 4pm at Golden Island Shopping Centre, Athlone, members of the public are invited to step inside the Croí Mobile Health Hub to avail of free blood pressure and pulse checks, stethoscope checks, and CPR demonstrations. Croí’s multidisciplinary health team will be on hand throughout the day to provide expert advice on heart health and stroke prevention, and to answer questions on cardiovascular well-being. Booking is essential, and bookings can be made here.

The Croí Mobile Health Hub is the first of its kind in Ireland dedicated to stroke prevention and heart health – a custom-built, 13.6-metre-long, multi-purpose mobile unit and the largest mobile stroke and heart disease detection facility in the country. It features six private assessment cubicles, two consultation rooms, and the capacity to transform into an open-plan educational and training facility. Its mission is simple but vital: to bring heart disease and stroke prevention directly into communities through early detection, risk assessment, and education.

This year, World Stroke Day 2025 builds on the Every Minute Counts campaign, urging people worldwide to recognise the signs of stroke and the urgent need to #ActFAST. It also calls for stronger government action on the policy recommendations outlined in #StrokeActionNow.

Speaking ahead of the event, Mark O’Donnell, Chief Executive, Croí, said:
“World Stroke Day is an important reminder that stroke can happen to anyone, at any age, but the risk can be greatly reduced through early detection and awareness of key risk factors like high blood pressure and atrial fibrillation. Thanks to the support of the Medtronic Mission Maker Project, we’re able to bring our Mobile Health Hub to Athlone and provide free, potentially life-saving health checks and education to the local community.”

Delcan Costello, Medtronic Athlone Site Leader, said “Medtronic has been part of the Athlone community for over 40 years, and initiatives like this bring our Mission to life in the most tangible way, supporting people’s health, right where they live. We’re proud to work with Croí to bring stroke prevention right into the heart of Athlone.” Croí is a recipient of a Medtronic Mission Makers grant, which supports patient awareness efforts across Ireland. Through this partnership, Croí is reaching more communities with its Mobile Health Unit and Mobile Health Hub, helping individuals understand their heart health and empowering them to take proactive steps towards prevention.”
