Croí welcomes the recent announcement by the New Zealand government as they successfully passed a historic anti-smoking bill this week. The bill will ban the sale of tobacco to anyone born after 1st January 2009 to prevent future generations from taking up smoking.
Croí also supports the Irish Governments recent new legislation, that restricts the sale & advertising of nicotine inhaling products such as e-cigarettes (and related nicotine inhaling products) to those under 18 yrs. The legislation will restrict the sale of products at self-service vending machines and removes advertising from public transport, cinemas & other venues where young adults and children frequent.
Smoking is a leading risk factor of cardiovascular disease, one of the leading causes of death & disability in Ireland. Smoking doubles your risk of developing heart disease.
All legislation that encourages people to reduce their risk factors is welcomed. Croí encourages all smokers to consider quitting and advises people to contact their local HSE service for support & advice in understanding the role of nicotine replacement therapy.
