Croí, the heart and stroke charity, is delighted to yet again be collaborating with some of the most iconic and historic buildings, organisations and landmarks throughout the West to celebrate World Heart Day on September 29th 2023.
World Heart Day is a reminder to everyone around the world to take care of their hearts. This year’s World Heart Federation campaign focuses on the essential message of knowing our hearts – because when we know more, we can take better care.
The illumination of The Galway Hooker last year, docked at the Claddagh basin, was a sight that brought much attention to the campaign and encouraged many more organisations to come on board for this year’s illumination.
To mark their commitment to promoting the importance of heart health, the following buildings and landmarks are to “go red” this World Heart Day:
- Ashford Castle
- ATU Connemara
- ATU Donegal
- ATU Galway City
- Bon Secours Hospital, Galway
- Croí House
- Galway City Hall
- Galway Hooker at the Claddagh Basin
- Garda stations in 5 Connacht counties – Murrough, Galway (NW Regional HQ), Castlebar, Roscommon Town, Sligo Town and Carrick on Shanon
- Kylemore Abbey
- Linenhall Arts Centre, Castlebar
- New pedestrian bridge at the Galway Cathedral (Galway City Council)
- Railway Bridge over the Shannon and Pedestrian Bridge in Athlone
- Trinity Arts Centre, Roscommon Town
- Westport Mall Bridge, Mayo
The illumination campaign draws a close on the many events organised by Croí throughout September in recognition of World Heart Month. Details of these events can be found on our website
Croí not only encourages people to ensure their heart health is a priority but also those around them – family, friends and colleagues. Croí’s aim is to educate and empower individuals, families, and communities to take control of their heart health and to make and maintain the changes that can lead to a longer and healthier life. Croí would like to extend thanks to the public, the many healthcare professionals, organisations, and volunteers who worked to ensure World Heart Month was an outstanding success.
