The Anthony O’Brien Memorial Cycle was organised in memory of a young man who died suddenly in April last year. Anthony’s friends, family and wife Deirdre formed an organising committee who received support from far and wide in their fundraising efforts for local heart & stroke charity Croi. Anthony lived in Athlone with his wife Deirdre and baby daughter Ella and was an employee of Galway based Corrib Oil. The family have strong Galway connections as Anthony’s father is originally from Killimor, Co Galway and his wife Deirdre trained as a nurse at Galway University Hospital. Almost 300 cyclists completed the charity cycle and this together with a range of other fundraising events yielded a huge sum for charity.
