Swimming can help you feel revitalised and focus on your mental well-being. It places little stress on your joints too, while still having a beneficial impact on your cardiovascular & respiratory fitness, and building healthy muscle mass. It’s also a great social outlet, whether you swim with friends, or a club, or even go to the pool, or the open water with a group!
As part of the challenge, all registrants will receive a welcome pack which will include our red Croí swim hat as well as a calendar to track your progress with your daily swims.
Bonus Gift – Raise €50 or more for Croí and you will receive a limited edition Croí Towel.
Chance to win 1 of 3 Benecol dry robes if you raise €150 or more for Croí.
Your friends and family can support your iDonate fundraiser and every cent raised from this event will go directly to supporting Croí services, which includes our virtual health and support programmes including Croí Connects (our free community help line and virtual chats) and the Croí Courtyard Apartments!
This is a virtual challenge so you can join us from anywhere so whether it’s on holidays or at home, in the pool, a lake or a dip in the sea, share your photos with us this August and please tag us at @croiheartstroke to make sure we see them. Don’t forget the hashtags – #SwimwithHeart #SnamhleCroí
Your safety is the number one priority so please take note of swimming safety guidelines if taking part in this challenge:
- Never Swim Alone.
- Make sure you can be seen.
- "Get in warm-get out warm" More experienced swimmers should remember 2 minutes per water degree celsius (15 degrees=30min).
- Check the wind and weather forecast.
- Check the tides by using an app such as "Tides near me" and remember that it is much safer to swim on a rising tide than on a falling tide.
- For less experienced swimmers, swim within your depth and stay within your dept.
- Listen to your body and tailor your swim to how you are feeling on the day.
- Be aware of other dangers such as Weever fish and Jellyfish (especially Lions Maine and Portuguese Man of War).
- If you have a medical condition, please consult with your doctor before taking to open water swimming.
