Smoking Age Limit Proposal

Croí welcomes the announcement by the Minister of Health, Stephen Donnelly that the legal age to buy cigarettes and other tobacco products will rise from the age of 18 to 21. Cabinet approval for legislation will be sought this week to increase the age requirement by three years.

Smoking is a leading risk factor of cardiovascular disease, one of the leading causes of death and disability in Ireland. Smoking doubles your risk of developing heart disease. All legislation that encourages people to reduce their risk factors is welcomed. Croí encourages all smokers to consider quitting and advises people to contact their local HSE service for support & advice.
